How to Plan a 4-Hour Vacation
Here’s the deal: you’re deserving of fun.
I’m talking spontaneous laughter, creative hobbies, time to play (robots, sports, checkers), access to great events and entertainment. Of course you can take your impact or your work seriously - but promise me you won’t take yourself too seriously, ok?
Cheryl Richardson in, Take Time for Your Life says,
“Most of us experience very little fun or adventure in our lives. WE save it for vacations or special holidays. But fun is a necessary part of a whole life and has a positive, powerful impact on your health and well-being.”
So use this as an excuse to not wait weeks or months until you detach from work and stress for a beat.
You’re even deserving of fun this week, and taking a 4-hour vacation will make sure you have it.
YESSSS! Bring out vacation you! The one who orders desert, walks around in wonder, releases about 25% more control, who takes shameless selfies.
Follow these steps & plan your 4-hour vacation:
Choose your 4-hour vacation block in the next 7-10 days.
Announce to your friends or family (or social media! Be a bold role model!) “Hey! I’m taking a 4-hour vacation right here in my city to detach from work and enjoy some new experiences! What would you recommend I check out?”
Gather those ideas and search for some of your own - try “top free activities near me” or visit your local tourism page.
Choose ONE activity you’ve never done before and book it for your 4-hour block. (Half of vacation joy is looking forward to it!)
On the day of, put up an out of office (even if it’s a weekend) on your email for your vacation block
Remove or turn off email from your phone (pretend you’re international or super rural with no service!)
Get on to it! Bonus points for taking public transportation to your activity so that you can see your city from a new vantage point.
Take. All. The. Selfies. Send one to your momma.
When you’re hungry, open up yelp to find a restaurant that meets 2 criteria:
You can walk to it
You have never been there
Get desert - come on, it’s vacation you!
Travel home and then call a friend or family member to let them know you’re back safe from vacation - and spare no detail on how it was.
